The Inocon Group helps Olympic Organizers through final
preparations with Readiness Exercise
Torino, Italy
On December 15 and 16 2005, The Inocon Group, an Atlanta, Georgia based
firm specializing in operational readiness consulting and crisis management
planning conducted a two-day readiness exercise for the Torino Organizing
Committee (TOROC) for the upcoming 2006 Olympic Winter Games.
Inocon’s ReadySim™ product is a scenario-based, real-time simulation
designed to provide the Organizing Committee an opportunity to practice
normal and crisis operations in a risk-free environment. Focused on management-level
decision making and games-wide communications, ReadySim served as TOROC’s
final tune-up before the XX Olympic Winter Games begin on February 10,
2006.
“A Very Useful Experience”
“Having Inocon produce and deliver the ReadySim exercise
was a very useful experience” said Paolo Bellino, Managing Director
for TOROC. “We all learned very much from the exercise, and as an
organizing committee, we’re now better positioned to have successful
Games.”
“ReadySim allows our clients to validate their planning through practice” said
Dan Donovan, Inocon’s CEO. “Because it gives the organization
a chance to rehearse normal and crisis management operations in a risk-free
environment, the simulation is the best tool for identifying any issues
that need to be addressed.”
Understanding Client Operations
is Key to Success
In order to design, develop, and deliver ReadySim The Inocon
Group worked closely with TOROC for more than six months in 2005. According
to Inocon project manager Beverly Carey, developing a close working relationship
with the client was the key to success. “By locating our operation
inside TOROC’s offices, we were able to gain a thorough knowledge
of the Organizing Committee’s culture, practices, and structure” said
Carey. “We were part of the team, just like any other department
within TOROC”
Over the course of the two day simulation, more than
two hundred Organizing Committee staff and key partners like The International
Olympic Committee and various government and law-enforcement agencies
participated in the exercise. Participants conducted simulated Olympic-related
operations in real-time, including command center operations, management
of the Olympic transport network, executive and scheduling committee
meetings, and press briefings.
Final step in readiness program
The two-day exercise was the final step in a program of readiness
activities managed by Inocon. In October and November, The Inocon Group
conducted seventeen similar exercises for TOROC that focused on venue-level
operational readiness.
